For anyone who has traveled recently, did you bring cash or were you able to use ATM's there in the country? I really don't want to carry lots of cash around the world unless I have to. Thanks for the packing advice! It's great to have some input! Angie

We did not feel comfortable using the ATM's but met several families that did. The young local men questioned a couple of the fathers and made them feel uncomfortable and some "police" questioned another family about their cash withdrawal from the ATM so we steered clear of them. Jim was afraid our card wouldn't be returned from the machine or something. We did take cash and just exchanged for Tenge when needed. We put the hotel,restaurants and anything we could on our credit card. We carried a money belt at all times and used the hotel safe too. I guess you could call us overly cautious! Ha!
I brought cash a significant amount and never felt nervous at all. I used a credit card for hotel but cash for everything else.
